When exploring New York City, it’s essential to understand the division into the five boroughs (or districts) that make up this unique metropolis: Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Each borough represents a world unto itself, full of distinctive and vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own characteristics and attractions. Manhattan, with its iconic skyscrapers; Queens, a mosaic of cultures; The Bronx, the heart of hip-hop; Brooklyn, a haven for the creative; and Staten Island, known for its quiet atmosphere. Each borough is a vast area divided into a myriad of unique neighborhoods, each with its own particularities and a wealth of things to do and see.

Must-see attractions in Manhattan
Upper East Side an iconic neighborhood renowned for its elegance and chic style, ideal for fans of luxury brands and affluent families living in stately buildings. As you walk its streets, you are sure to notice the uniformed doormen ready to greet guests. If you have seen the tv series Gossip Girl, you know exactly what we are talking about, since it is set in this very neighborhood. The Upper East Side is also home to New York’s largest park, Central Park, where you can rent a bike, take a walk or visit the park in a carriage. Need I say that it’s absolutely worth it?

Top of the Rock if you want to take pictures of the Empire State Building from above, however, this is the perfect observation deck to do so. Some people choose it as an alternative, I preferred to visit both to be sure!
One World Trade Center at 104 stories, it holds the record for being the tallest skyscraper in New York City. The experience begins already in the elevator, lined with LED panels illustrating the evolution of the city since its origins, taking you to 104 floors in less than 50 seconds-it is simply amazing. Among the things that will forever remain in my memory is the immersive audiovisual experience, which ends with a spectacular view of the city skyline as the panels are pulled up.
The Edge on the 100th floor of the 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper, its glass floor gives you the sensation of being suspended in the sky and walking above the city.
Summit One Vanderbild I experienced a similar feeling at Summit One Vanderbilt. This place offered me a very unique experience! The magic of the night, combined with the balloons floating through the halls as everyone threw them for pictures, made it unforgettable. I walked on a transparent floor that allowed me to see the city or the floor below. Meanwhile, in front of me, beyond the glass window, New York dazzled with its endless lights, towering skyscrapers, and even projections that, looking back at the videos, seem almost unreal! Additionally, on the top floor, you can enjoy a terrace offering a wide selection of cocktails and desserts.
If you’re undecided, I recommend visiting at least two observation decks to ensure a complete experience of New York’s skyscrapers. Here are some options to consider:
- Go City Explorer Pass: Choose from around 90 experiences, including observation decks, museums, and tours. For 5 attractions, the cost is approximately $155. You can find more details on GetYourGuide.
- CityPass: Includes admission to 5 attractions of your choice: Empire State Building; American Museum of Natural History; plus 3 additional options from:
- Top of the Rock
- Ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
- 9/11 Museum
- Guggenheim Museum
- Intrepid Museum
- Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises
This CityPass costs about $134.
- Summit One Vanderbilt: Tickets are usually sold separately at a price of $45-50 per person.

By choosing one of these passes, you can enjoy a variety of New York’s top attractions and make the most of your visit.

Additionally, like many other major cities, New York is full of urban legends, some of which involve places believed to have the power to grant wishes. Here are some of the most well-known traditions believed to bring good luck and fulfill desires.
- Alice in Wonderland Statue – Central Park according to legend, touching the Mad Hatter’s hat on the bronze Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park brings good fortune and helps make wishes come true. This statue is a beloved attraction for both children and adults, and many visitors stop to make a wish while touching the hat.
- The Wall Street Bull the famous bull statue at Bowling Green Park is known as a symbol of strength and prosperity. According to tradition, touching the bull’s horns or testicles brings financial luck and helps achieve economic success. Although a bit unusual, it’s one of the most popular urban legends among tourists.
- Brooklyn Bridge – “Love Locks” like in many other cities, the Brooklyn Bridge has seen the rise of the “love locks” tradition. Couples attach a lock to the bridge and throw the key into the river as a symbol of eternal love. It’s said that this practice not only strengthens love but also helps make a love-related wish come true when the lock is closed.
- The Flatiron Building – Its Shape and Wishes the unique shape of the Flatiron Building is associated with a legend that if you walk around the building clockwise three times while making a wish, it will have a better chance of coming true. The building has become a symbol of good luck and success.
